<<Captains Ready Room>>
Alexa closed her eyes slightly at the bitter taste of her coffee.
Eden : “Computer, didn’t I ask for blend forty-two?”
There was a long silence and a series of busy beeps from the console.
Eden : “Computer?”
This time just silence hung in the air.
Alexa eventually walked over to the console and pushed the Comm button.
Eden : “Eden to engine...”
She was cut off mid-sentence as the computer cut in.
Computer : “Confirmed, coffee, blend forty-two, with milk was requested.”
Eden : “Computer, why the lag in response?”
Computer : “Currently several isolinear links to the memory core are withdrawn.”
Alexa shook her head and put the mug back on the replicator pad, then pressed the button to recycle the materials.
Eden : “Please let me know when the links are re-established.”
The computer beep and Alexa sat down again.
She had been aboard for the better part of a month now and she had yet to have a passable coffee at the start of her shift. Either primary computer functions were offline, power systems were under maintenance or some vital problem would require her attention. To be honest she was getting quite irritated with the whole upgrade process and would be glad to get out of dock.
The Finland was finally getting her primary systems upgrades to bring her up to current technology levels. The computer core was now almost sixty percent improved in memory and speed, the warp coils were replaced with newer materials, ablative armour was being added to the primary hull to give the Finland a higher combat rating and her shields emitters were completely replaced with newer systems.
All of this was time consuming, but the Norway class was always considered one of the little known members of the fleet and Alexa wanted the Finland to make its mark...
Everyone seems to want vacations and spare time, but after her first week of downtime she was ready to rip a shuttle apart just to have something to do putting it back together. Have nothing to do was not something she enjoyed and the fact the dock engineers said they had everything in hand didn't help.
The few times she had tried to get her hands dirty and help with the upgrade process, she had been quickly moved on to something more clerical.
At least some of the new crew would be arriving soon. She had read a lot about her choices for department heads, but nothing compares to actually meeting people and getting to know them.
